NEW JOB VACANCIES AT EAST AFRICAN CRUDE OIL PIPELINE (EACOP) PROJECT

The primary contractor for the historic East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project, China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co. Ltd. (CPP), began a huge hiring campaign for several site-based posts in Tanzania in January 2026.

The EACOP project, a 1,443-kilometer heated crude oil pipeline system intended to move oil from Lake Albert in Uganda to the Chongoleani peninsula close to Tanga port in Tanzania, includes this recruiting as a crucial stage. This is arguably the biggest job opportunity in the energy sector for Tanzanian experts and skilled workers this decade.

  1. Overview of the Position: The EACOP Workforce 2026
CPP’s job openings include a wide range of specialties, from critical site support and logistics to high-level engineering and quality control.
CategoryAvailable Positions
Engineering & TechnicalCivil Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, QA/QC Inspector (Hydro Test), Technician (Hydro Test)
Machinery & OperationsExcavator Operator, Man Lift Operator, Driver (SUV & Pickup)
Skilled TradesScaffolder, Rigger
Administration & SupportCamp Administration Officer, Chef, Translator
  1. Technical Roles and Responsibilities in Depth
The unique nature of a heated pipeline makes the EACOP project technically challenging. In contrast to conventional pipelines, the EACOP has to keep the waxy crude oil flowing at a temperature of 50°C.

A. Hydro Test QA/QC Inspector
This is a high-risk safety position. Before the oil is added, hydrostatic testing entails filling the pipeline sections with water under high pressure to look for leaks or structural flaws.

Verifying the integrity of the welding, keeping an eye on pressure gauges, and making sure the “Hydro Test” satisfies international ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) standards are among the responsibilities.

Why it matters: A hydro test failure guarantees that a future oil spill is prevented.

B. Civil and Mechanical Engineers
Civil engineers are in charge of trenching depths, the pipeline’s “Right of Way” (ROW), and the structural soundness of the pumping stations and Main Line Block Valves (MLBV).

Mechanical engineers are in charge of laying the 24-inch-diameter carbon steel pipes and installing the heat-traced insulation.

C. Scaffolders and Riggers
They serve as the foundation for both logistics and site safety. While scaffolders construct the temporary structures needed for welding and painting at high sections of the pipeline stations, riggers oversee the use of cranes to lift heavy pipe pieces.

  1. The Workplace: “Remote Sites” Life
It is important for candidates to understand that these are site-based roles. Kagera, Geita, Shyinyanga, Tabora, Singida, Manyara, Dodoma, and Tanga are the eight regions of Tanzania that the EACOP passes through.

Rotational Shifts: “28/14” or “42/21” day rotations are common for site work (work days vs. leave days).

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): CPP upholds a “Zero Harm” philosophy. Workers must complete extensive safety training in high-pressure situations, heavy machinery, and wildlife encounters.

Camp Life: The hundreds of workers who live in isolated construction camps depend on jobs like the Chef and Camp Administration Officer to keep them healthy and motivated.

  1. Requirements and Qualifications for 2026
CPP seeks a combination of “hands-on” grit and formal instruction.

Technical Certifications: A current NIT (National Institute of Transport) or comparable heavy machinery license is required for operators (man lifts, excavators).

QA/QC Standards: API 1104 (Standard for Welding Pipelines) should be known to inspectors.

Language Proficiency: The Translator position is essential for facilitating communication between the local Tanzanian workforce and Chinese technical leads. Speaking Mandarin, English, and Swahili fluently is quite advantageous.

Site expertise: Proven expertise in the oil and gas industry is frequently a deciding element during the shortlisting process, rather than merely a “added advantage”.

  1. How to Apply: The Appropriate Method
You must adhere to the precise formatting requirements in order for the CPP HR staff to process your application:

Charleschale@cpptz.com and yusuph.aziziabdallah@cpptz.com are the recipient emails. Format: Package for Position Applied (e.g., Mechanical Engineer – MCPY 12).

Attachments: If at all possible, merge your resume and pertinent credentials (NIDA, Academic, and Trade) into a single PDF file.

The deadline is January 17, 2026.

6. EACOP’s Importance for Tanzania
Working on a project that is a cornerstone of the bilateral agreement between Tanzania and Uganda is what it means to join CPP in 2026.

Economic Impact: The project is worth more than $4 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI).

Local Content: Since CPP is required under the Local Content Regulations (2017) to give preference to Tanzanian individuals and businesses, this is a great opportunity for locals to gain well-paying, specialized jobs.

Transfer of Skills: Tanzanians who work for a multinational corporation such as China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering get skills that will be useful in the global energy sector for many years.

  1. Important Caution: Steer clear of recruitment scams
A strong caution has been issued by CPP : CPP and EACOP do not charge for job applications. * If you get a call requesting a “security fee,” “medical fee,” or “interview facilitation fee,” it’s fraud.
