1. Job Description
NMB Bank Plc is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager – Litigation and Strategic Engagements to oversee legal risk management, litigation processes, and key institutional engagements. This is a full-time position based at the Bank’s Head Office in Dar es Salaam. The successful candidate will support the Head of Legal in ensuring smooth operations of the Litigation and Strategic Engagements Unit while safeguarding the Bank’s legal and reputational interests.
The role requires an experienced legal professional with strong litigation background, exceptional analytical abilities, and the capacity to lead complex engagements with judicial, regulatory, and law enforcement institutions. The Senior Manager will manage active court cases, oversee the preparation of legal documentation, coordinate external counsel, and ensure compliance with the Bank’s reporting frameworks.

2. Duties and Responsibilities
A. Business and Operational Delivery
- Support the Head of Legal in managing the Litigation & Strategic Engagements Unit.
- Prepare, review, and file court documents; represent the Bank in court as assigned.
- Manage and track all litigation cases, ensuring timely updates and outcomes.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with the Judiciary, Solicitor General, National Prosecution Services, Land Registries, and law enforcement institutions.
- Ensure quarterly contingent liability reports align with approved frameworks.
- Maintain and enhance the Bank’s case management system in line with best practices.
- Coordinate responses to law enforcement matters and provide advisory to senior management.
- Oversee the reporting of criminal matters to relevant agencies and follow up on cases of interest to the Bank.
- Report litigation issues carrying financial or reputational risks to senior management promptly.
- Ensure public statements related to litigation receive prior approval from the Head of Legal.
- Oversee the processing of court documents, agency notices, and law enforcement requests from branches and headquarters.
- Supervise litigation work conducted by internal and external counsel.
- Provide legal advisory support to departments and resolve case-related queries.
- Maintain an updated database of all internal and external counsel handling the Bank’s litigation matters.
B. People Management
- Mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing legal team.
- Oversee training needs assessments, succession planning, and resource allocation.
- Act as an escalation point for complex legal queries and ensure timely resolution.
- Lead continuous improvement of legal systems, processes, and reporting standards.
3. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks in Tanzania.
- Proficiency in standard computer applications and legal research tools.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.

4. Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized university.
- Master’s degree in Law (LLM) is an added advantage.
- Must be enrolled and practicing as an Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a legal environment with proven litigation expertise.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a legal or corporate context.
