Career Opportunity: HSE & ERT Superintendent at Sotta Mining

Sotta Mining Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of Perseus Mining, is seeking an experienced Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) & Emergency Response Team (ERT) Superintendent. This critical leadership role is based at the Nyanzaga Site in the Sengerema District of Mwanza.

The primary mission of the HSE & ERT Superintendent is to ensure that every employee and contractor returns home safely every day while protecting the natural environment from the impacts of mining operations. You will be instrumental in driving the “Safety Home Everyday” (SHED) culture across the site.

Key Responsibilities: Safety Leadership and Emergency Readiness

Reporting to the HSET Manager, you will balance strategic system implementation with hands-on mentoring and crisis management.

1. HSE Management Systems

• Implementation: Establish and maintain HSE procedures and systems throughout the life of the mine.
• Compliance: Ensure all operations align with Tanzanian government HSE policies and international best practices.
• Auditing: Utilize Lead Auditor skills to review system effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.

2. Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis

• Coordination: Lead investigations into site incidents to identify underlying causes.
• Remediation: Develop and follow up on corrective actions to prevent recurrence using methodologies like ICAM or Taproot.

3. Emergency Response Team (ERT) Oversight

• Risk Assessment: Review operations to determine potential emergency scenarios.
• Planning: Develop, implement, and test robust emergency response plans.
• Mentorship: Coach workgroups and contractors on how to apply ERT systems to high-risk tasks.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

Sotta Mining is looking for a seasoned professional with deep roots in the mining industry.

• Education: Tertiary degree in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) or a related discipline.
• Experience: Minimum 8 years in safety roles, with at least 6 years specifically in the mining industry.
• Technical Skills: * Lead Auditor competency and qualification.
  • Incident Investigation training (ICAM, Taproot, etc.).
  • Expertise in Risk Management and Behavior-Based Safety.
• Attributes: Strong mentoring skills and a proactive approach to safety culture.
