Executive Opportunity: HR Lead at Jaza Energy Inc.
Jaza Energy Inc., a social enterprise dedicated to powering Sub-Saharan Africa, is seeking a strategic and hands-on HR Lead for their Tanzania operations. Jaza is unique for its “Jaza Stars” model—hiring and empowering local women to run solar-powered battery-swapping hubs.
As the Country HR Lead, you will be a cornerstone of the Country Leadership Team. Your mission is to build a scalable HR “operating system” that supports rapid growth while maintaining a deep commitment to a culture of leadership and entrepreneurship.
Strategic HR Leadership & Talent Management
This role balances the complexities of a matrixed multinational environment with the grit required for a scaling startup. You will report locally to the Managing Director while aligning with the Global Head of People and Culture.
1. High-Volume Recruitment & Onboarding
Jaza is expanding fast. You will own the recruitment lifecycle for both HQ staff and distributed field teams, ensuring that the talent pipeline is ready before new solar hubs are deployed.
2. Performance & Culture Champion
You aren’t just managing files; you are managing growth. You will oversee succession planning, skills gap analysis, and training programs that turn local hires into business leaders.
3. Compliance, Payroll & Risk
- Labor Law: Act as the ultimate authority on Tanzania labor laws and ELRA (Employment and Labour Relations Act) compliance.
- HRIS & Data: Lead the rollout of the company’s HR Information System to ensure 100% data integrity.
- Payroll: Oversee accurate monthly payroll data submission and benefit administration.
Candidate Requirements
Jaza is looking for a “builder” who has experience setting up systems from scratch in a scaling environment.
- Experience: 7+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Law, Business Administration, or Psychology.
- Sector Expertise: Proven track record in high-volume recruitment for distributed or field-based workforces.
- Systems: Strong proficiency in using HRIS/HRMS tools and leveraging data to drive decision-making.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional conflict resolution skills and the ability to serve as a bridge between global corporate leadership and rural field operations.
