NMB Bank Plc, Tanzania’s leading commercial bank, is seeking a high-caliber Senior Relationship Manager to spearhead its Chinese Desk within the Corporate Banking division. This specialized role is designed to bridge the gap between NMB’s world-class financial services and the growing community of Chinese and Asian corporate investors in Tanzania.

Based at the Head Office in Dar es Salaam, you will be the primary point of contact for large-scale international clients, requiring a sophisticated blend of financial expertise, cultural intelligence, and linguistic skills.


Key Responsibilities: Driving the Asian Desk Strategy

As a Senior Relationship Manager, you are responsible for the entire lifecycle of the corporate client relationship, from initial acquisition to long-term portfolio management.

  • Client Acquisition & Retention: Proactively identify and market to prospective Chinese corporate clients. Develop deep relationships through consistent communication and site visits.
  • Financial Solution Architecting: Consult with clients to understand their complex needs and provide tailored solutions in investment, borrowing (credit), and transactional banking.
  • Portfolio Health: Manage the asset book to ensure high performance, maximum returns, and minimal risk. This includes gathering critical data for credit applications and monitoring business developments.
  • Internal Collaboration: Partner with Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Product teams to ensure all client plans are prudently priced and adhere to Bank of Tanzania (BOT) regulations.
  • Market Benchmarking: Stay updated on industry trends and competitor products to ensure NMB remains the preferred banking partner for the Asian corporate segment.

Requirements and Qualifications

This is a senior-level position that demands a unique combination of academic excellence and niche language skills.

Core Requirements

  • Language: Understanding of Chinese Mandarin is a must. Knowledge of other Asian languages is a distinct advantage.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years in Relationship Management (Large Corporates/SMEs), Branch Management, or Business Centre management.
  • Credit Expertise: Proven experience in credit assessment and management is essential.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or related fields.
  • Desirable: Master’s degree in Business Studies or postgraduate certifications in Banking.

Essential Skills

  • Strong understanding of BOT regulations and government banking policies.
  • Exceptional Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and presentation skills.
  • Ability to lead through vision and values, facilitating change within a team environment.
