Role Purpose: Securing the Supply Chain

The Area Agribusiness Manager provides technical leadership and extension services to SBL’s network of growers. The primary objective is to ensure a consistent, competitively priced, and high-quality supply of brewing materials while fostering the growth of local farming communities.

Key Accountabilities & Strategic Responsibilities

1. Sourcing & Farmer Recruitment

• Grower Network: Strategically recruit growers and secure acreage to meet annual tonnage targets for barley, sorghum, and maize.
• Cost Optimization: Source raw materials in the most cost-effective manner without compromising on the “on time in full” (OTIF) delivery standard.
• Supplier Diversity: Identify and partner with trustworthy, diverse vendors and local suppliers to strengthen the resilience of the value chain.

2. Technical Extension & Digital Innovation

• Extension Services: Provide on-the-ground technical training in agronomy and post-harvest handling to minimize losses and maximize yield.
• Digital Farming: Deploy digital platforms to capture accurate records, ensuring 100% traceability from the smallholder farm to the brewery.
• Climate Smart Agriculture: Implement sustainable farming practices that help farmers mitigate the risks of climate change in the Singida region.

3. Risk Management & Compliance

• Mitigation: Identify and neutralize sourcing risks across short, mid, and long-term horizons, including market volatility.
• Safety & Policy: Operate a rigorous safety agenda and ensure all agribusiness operations comply with local laws and Diageo’s global policies.
• Stakeholder Relations: Effectively communicate company policies to local government authorities and community leaders to ensure social license to operate.

Candidate Profile: Experience & Qualifications

SBL is looking for a leader who combines scientific knowledge with sharp business acumen.

• Educational Background: A University degree in Agricultural Sciences. Additional certification or skills in Agribusiness Management is highly desirable.
• Professional Experience: 5+ years in a similar agribusiness leadership role.
• Sector Expertise: Proven track record in contract farming, working with both smallholder and large-scale commercial farmers.
• Core Competencies: Solid understanding of agribusiness finance, value chain analysis, and problem-solving in complex supply chain environments.
