Career Opportunity: Credit Manager, Analytics & IFRS at DCB Bank

DCB Commercial Bank PLC, a prominent retail and commercial financial institution in Tanzania, is looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented Credit Manager, Analytics & IFRS. Based in Dar es Salaam, this critical role is designed for a quantitative expert who can bridge the gap between credit risk management and financial reporting.

DCB Bank serves over 3 million customers through an extensive network of branches, Wakala agents, and ATMs. The successful candidate will ensure the bank’s credit portfolio remains resilient by utilizing advanced data analytics and maintaining full compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS 9).


Core Purpose of the Role

The Credit Manager for Analytics & IFRS is the custodian of the bank’s Expected Credit Loss (ECL) framework. You will be responsible for the technical accuracy of impairment computations, portfolio stress testing, and ensuring that all credit reporting aligns with the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) prudential guidelines.

Key Responsibilities & Areas of Impact

1. IFRS 9 Impairment & Modeling

  • End-to-End Process: Lead the full IFRS 9 cycle, including data extraction, model execution, staging of assets (Stage 1, 2, and 3), and journal postings.
  • ECL Computation: Ensure accurate Expected Credit Loss calculations for Retail, SME, Corporate, and off-balance sheet exposures.
  • Model Maintenance: Update macroeconomic overlays and assumptions to reflect current market trends and regulatory shifts.

2. Credit Risk Analytics & Monitoring

  • Portfolio Health: Track Non-Performing Loan (NPL) movements, risk migration, and transition trends across all sectors.
  • Early Warning Systems: Establish and monitor Early Warning Indicators (EWI) to identify delinquency patterns and behavioral trends before they impact the bottom line.
  • Concentration Risk: Analyze sectoral distribution to ensure the bank stays within approved risk appetite limits.

3. Regulatory Compliance & MIS

  • BoT Reporting: Coordinate all regulatory credit returns, sectoral exposure reports, and Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) data submissions.
  • Management Information: Develop and maintain sophisticated MIS reports that provide senior management with strategic insights for policy decisions.
  • Audit Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors regarding credit impairment methodologies.

Candidate Profile: Qualifications & Experience

This is a technical role that requires a high level of quantitative proficiency.

Required Education:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, or Mathematics from a recognized institution.

Professional Experience:

  • Banking Sector: At least 3 years of direct experience in IFRS 9 impairment modeling, risk analytics, or regulatory reporting within a financial institution.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of Bank of Tanzania (BOT) credit regulations, circulars, and prudential guidelines.

Technical Competencies:

  • Analytical Skills: Expert ability to manage large datasets and translate them into actionable risk strategies.
  • Leadership: Ability to supervise and train risk teams on IFRS 9 concepts and analytics.
  • Communication: Strong reporting skills to present complex quantitative data to non-technical stakeholders.
