Core Purpose of the Role
The Emulsion Plant Operator is responsible for the safe manufacture and transfer of Ammonium Nitrate Emulsion (ANE). This role involves managing complex chemical processes, maintaining strict inventory control of raw materials, and ensuring that all operations comply with both Barrick’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Tanzanian statutory regulations.
Key Responsibilities & Accountability
1. Safety & Regulatory Compliance (SHES)
- Safety Leadership: Demonstrate proactive safe behavior and strictly adhere to the SHES (Safety, Health, Environment, and Security) charter.
- Operational Permits: Manage work permits, confined space entries, and the control of change protocols within the plant.
- Emergency Reporting: Ensure immediate notification of any accidents or near-misses to the Supervisor and participate in accident investigations.
2. Plant Operations & Maintenance
- ANE Manufacturing: Operate the emulsion plant according to defined procedures to ensure the production of high-quality explosives.
- Quality Control: Maintain constant communication with the Quality Control team to address any chemical or technical discrepancies immediately.
- Housekeeping: Maintain a pristine working environment in the emulsion bay perimeter to prevent environmental contamination.
3. Inventory & Technical Documentation
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate inventory records for all raw materials and waste products.
- Procedure Drafting: Actively participate in the drafting and revision of technical operating procedures to improve plant efficiency.
- Data Analysis: Analyze operational data and transform findings into actionable improvement plans.
Candidate Profile: Qualification & Competencies

Educational & Professional Requirements:
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mining technician principles.
- Certification: A valid Blasting Certificate is essential.
- Specialized Experience: Prior experience in handling chemicals and explosives is highly preferred.
- Language: Full fluency in both English and Kiswahili (written and spoken) is required.
