Kilombero Sugar Company Limited (KSCL) is Tanzania’s largest sugar producer and the maker of the well-known “Bwana Sukari” brand. The company operates two large sugar estates and mills—Msolwa and Ruembe—located in the Kilombero Valley and separated by the Great Ruaha River. KSCL is a member of the Illovo Sugar Africa Group, Africa’s largest sugar producer, which is majority-owned by Associated British Foods plc (UK), with the Government of Tanzania holding a significant share.

KSCL manages the country’s largest sugarcane estate, covering approximately 26,000 hectares, and works with nearly 8,000 smallholder farmers who supply hundreds of thousands of tonnes of sugarcane annually. In addition to sugar production, the company operates a potable alcohol distillery and generates renewable energy from bagasse, contributing to sustainable industrial operations.
