Job Description
VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) is inviting applications for the position of Women & Youth Network Capacity Building Accompanier – National Volunteer, to be deployed across Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Geita, and Mara regions. This role offers a unique opportunity for passionate development practitioners to contribute to youth engagement, gender equality, and social inclusion initiatives at community and civil society levels.
VSO is a leading international development organisation that uses volunteering as a catalyst for fighting poverty and inequality. Rather than delivering aid, VSO works alongside communities, civil society organisations, and local partners to support locally led, sustainable development.
Through its Volunteering for Development (VfD) approach, VSO places marginalised people at the centre of development processes. This volunteer role focuses on strengthening the capacity of Civil Society Groups (CSGs) and networks to meaningfully engage women, young people, and marginalised populations in leadership, advocacy, and decision-making.
Duties and Responsibilities
The National Volunteer will work closely with Civil Society Groups and community stakeholders to achieve the following responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and technical support on youth engagement, gender equality, and social inclusion
- Strengthen the organisational and advocacy capacity of Civil Society Groups and networks
- Promote inclusive leadership and participatory decision-making processes within community structures
- Support integration of gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) principles into partner strategies and activities
- Facilitate community and stakeholder engagement using participatory and locally led development approaches
- Mentor and accompany partner organisations to embed inclusive practices sustainably
- Foster collaboration between youth networks, women’s groups, community leaders, and other stakeholders
- Support monitoring, learning, and reflection processes to improve community-led initiatives
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate should demonstrate the following qualifications and competencies:
- Proven experience in youth engagement, gender equality, social inclusion, or community development
- Strong background in community mobilisation, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building
- Experience working with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) or community-based groups
- Ability to provide mentorship, coaching, and technical guidance
- Familiarity with participatory, rights-based, and locally led development approaches
- High adaptability, collaboration skills, and cultural sensitivity
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to VSO’s values of inclusion, equality, and sustainable development
Formal academic qualifications are an added advantage, but demonstrated practical experience in social development and inclusion is highly valued.
