4. Job Description
UNICEF Tanzania is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Social & Behavior Change Officer (Partnership) – NO-2, based in Zanzibar. In Tanzania, UNICEF applies Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) as a cross-cutting programme strategy to address social, cultural, economic, and structural factors that influence behaviors affecting child wellbeing. The organization focuses on evidence-based, human-centered approaches that support positive and sustainable behavior change in both development and humanitarian contexts.
The Social & Behavior Change Officer will work under the overall supervision of the Chief of Zanzibar Office, with technical guidance from the Country Office SBC Manager and the Chief of Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships (CAP). The role combines technical SBC programming with partnership development, supporting collaboration with government institutions, civil society organizations, private sector actors, and media partners to advance UNICEF’s mission and resource mobilization efforts.
5. Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key functions:
- Conduct or support comprehensive SBC situation analyses addressing social, cultural, economic, political, and communication factors affecting communities in Zanzibar.
- Collect, analyze, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data to inform SBC strategies aligned with the 2027–2032 Country Programme of Cooperation and UNDAF.
- Design, review, and implement evidence-based SBC strategies, plans, and materials to maximize impact, sustainability, and scale.
- Collaborate with partners to design, test, produce, and disseminate high-quality SBC materials and interventions.
- Monitor SBC implementation, track indicators, and assess behavioral change outcomes to inform continuous programme improvement.
- Integrate SBC approaches across sectors, including health, nutrition, education, child protection, social policy, adolescence, gender, and early childhood development (ECD).
- Support Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) initiatives, including preparedness and emergency response coordination with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with civil society organizations, community leaders, private sector actors, donors, and UN partners.
- Support advocacy initiatives, capacity-building activities, and training programmes related to SBC and partnerships.
- Contribute to knowledge management, documentation of best practices, reporting, budget planning, DCT monitoring, and financial compliance.
6. Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in social and behavioral sciences such as sociology, anthropology, psychology, communication for development, or a related field.
- At least two (2) years of professional experience in social development programming, SBC, communication for development, advocacy, partnerships, or related areas.
- Proven experience working with government institutions.
- Previous experience within the UN system or international organizations is an added advantage.
- Strong analytical, coordination, communication, and reporting skills.
7. Language and Competencies
- Fluency in English and Swahili is required.
- Knowledge of another UN official language or relevant local language is an asset.
