1. Job Description
CRDB Bank is seeking a highly skilled and ethical professional to join its Data Management Office as a Specialist – AI Governance and Ethics. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that the Bank’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) systems are deployed responsibly, transparently, and in accordance with both regulatory and internal ethical standards.
The successful candidate will support the development, implementation, and monitoring of Responsible AI frameworks that protect customer rights, enhance fairness, and promote safe innovation. As AI continues to transform the banking sector, this role ensures that CRDB Bank remains compliant with emerging regulations while fostering an environment of trust, accountability, and sustainable digital transformation.
You will work closely with data scientists, compliance teams, legal officers, and IT professionals to guide responsible AI usage and ensure all AI-related risks are properly assessed, mitigated, and documented.
2. Duties and Responsibilities
AI Governance & Ethics
- Develop, implement, and maintain Responsible AI and Ethics frameworks that support the bank’s AI/ML governance agenda.
- Conduct ethical risk assessments to ensure fairness, transparency, and explainability in AI models.
- Support the establishment of governance standards aligned with the Bank’s strategic digital transformation initiatives.
Monitoring & Compliance
- Monitor deployed AI and ML systems for ethical compliance, bias mitigation, and fairness.
- Maintain complete documentation for model audits, ethical reviews, and regulatory inspections.
- Ensure responsible handling of personal and sensitive information in line with the Data Protection Act and Bank of Tanzania requirements.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Engage with Legal, Risk, Compliance, IT, and Data Science teams to align ethical AI practices across the bank.
- Collaborate with the Data Governance Council to ensure consistency between AI governance and enterprise data standards.
- Provide advisory support on ethical implications of proposed AI initiatives.
Training & Capacity Building
- Deliver training sessions and awareness programs on Responsible AI, transparency, and data ethics.
- Build internal capability in model governance and ethical AI adoption.
3. Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Law, or a related discipline.
- Certification in AI Governance, Responsible AI, or AI Ethics is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in AI/ML governance, data ethics, compliance, or model risk management within the financial sector.
- Experience in AI model evaluation, bias audits, and ethical compliance procedures.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Python or R programming.
- Experience with PyTorch or similar ML frameworks.
- Strong understanding of SQL/NoSQL databases.
- Knowledge of data privacy techniques, encryption, and anonymization.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure or hybrid environments).
- Understanding of global AI ethics frameworks (OECD, EU AI Act, Deloitte Trustworthy AI, etc.).
