1. Job Description
The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), in partnership with the Irish Embassy Tanzania, is seeking a dedicated and motivated Project Officer to support the implementation of the Tuinuke Pamoja Project in Dodoma Region. This position is a full-time role designed for a committed professional with a strong background in community development, gender equality, and grassroots engagement.
The Project Officer will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and monitoring field-level project activities in assigned communities. Working directly with grassroots groups, Local Government Authorities (LGAs), community leaders, and development partners, the role aims to enhance gender equality, improve social inclusion, strengthen community structures, and ensure effective delivery of project interventions.

2. Duties and Responsibilities
Project Implementation
- Participate in day-to-day coordination of project activities in designated districts.
- Support grassroots groups to implement gender-focused and inclusion-related initiatives.
- Assist in forming, strengthening, and supporting community groups aligned with project objectives.
- Contribute to all project components by delivering activities as required.
- Ensure that grassroots groups function effectively, maintain collaboration, and demonstrate stability.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and sustain strong working relationships with communities, LGAs, AKF Tanzania (AKFT), and local leaders.
- Facilitate coordination at the district level to enhance project performance and accountability.
- Support planning and management of field visits, including those conducted by donors and project staff.
Capacity Building & Community Inclusion
- Conduct training needs assessments for grassroots groups.
- Promote gender equality, youth inclusion, and participation of persons with disabilities (PWD).
- Lead community mobilization, sensitization, and awareness activities focusing on gender justice and social inclusion.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting, and Learning (MERL)
- Support MERL teams in field-level data collection, validation, and reporting.
- Assist communities with reporting progress on project implementation.
- Monitor community-level systems for tracking project progress and challenges.
- Provide timely updates, document project achievements, and flag emerging risks or issues requiring management attention.
3. Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with community groups, LGAs, and grassroots organizations.
- At least 2 years’ experience implementing gender-focused or women empowerment initiatives.
- Experience in conducting community sensitization programs and mobilization activities.
- Familiarity with data collection tools and using information for project decision-making.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
- Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other digital tools.
- Understanding of child safeguarding, gender equality, and inclusion principles.
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to adapt approaches to suit community contexts, especially within Dodoma Region.
