Job Description

GSM Group of Companies, a leading conglomerate with diverse investments across Tanzania, is seeking a highly skilled Chinese Translator to support communication and operations within its manufacturing division. The ideal candidate will play a key role in bridging the communication gap between Chinese-speaking experts and local teams, ensuring seamless interpretation during meetings, technical discussions, factory activities, and documentation processes.

This position is vital to enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and collaboration within the organization. The successful candidate will work closely with technical, operational, and administrative teams, providing real-time translation and written document translation to support decision-making and daily operations.

The role requires professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Prior experience in steel manufacturing or a heavy-industry setting will be an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide accurate interpretation between Chinese and English during meetings, technical sessions, and factory operations.
• Translate technical documents, reports, manuals, and operational materials from Chinese to English and vice versa.
• Support manufacturing and engineering teams by ensuring clear communication with Chinese-speaking experts, suppliers, or partners.
• Assist in coordinating activities between local staff and Chinese personnel to enhance workflow efficiency.
• Maintain confidentiality of internal company information and uphold professionalism at all times.
• Ensure translated content accurately conveys technical meaning and industrial standards.
• Facilitate smooth communication during project planning, execution, and daily operational tasks.
• Participate in site visits, inspections, and production reviews where translation is required.
• Provide linguistic support during procurement processes, negotiations, and supplier discussions.

Job Requirements

Educational & Professional Qualifications:

• Proven experience working as a Chinese–English translator or interpreter.
• Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is highly desirable.
• Experience in steel manufacturing will be considered an added advantage.

Skills & Competencies:

• Fluency in both Chinese (Mandarin) and English, spoken and written.
• Strong communication, listening, and coordination abilities.
• Excellent translation accuracy, especially with technical terminology.
• Ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary and multicultural teams.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
