1. Job Description

Coca-Cola Kwanza (Tanzania) Ltd, a leading subsidiary of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA), is seeking a highly competent, motivated, and results-oriented Team Leader – Packaging to join its Manufacturing team in Mbeya. This is a permanent and critical leadership role for an experienced professional who can drive operational excellence, maintain high-quality production standards, and lead a dynamic packaging team within a fast-paced FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) environment.

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa is the largest Coca-Cola bottler on the African continent and the eighth largest globally by revenue. With operations in 14 countries and over 14,000 employees, CCBA serves more than 800,000 customers and produces some of the most recognized international and local beverage brands. Coca-Cola Kwanza alone covers more than half of Tanzania’s geography and employs over 900 people.

Reporting directly to the Unit Manager – Packaging, the Team Leader – Packaging will oversee shift operations, ensure adherence to World Class Manufacturing (WCM) practices, maintain equipment reliability, champion quality standards, and develop team capabilities. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership expertise, technical know-how, and a commitment to continuous improvement in manufacturing.


2. Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key duties:

A. World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Leadership

  • Drive the implementation and sustainability of WCM initiatives within the shift.
  • Communicate deployment plans and ensure team understanding and engagement.
  • Conduct line walkabouts to verify adherence to best work practices.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to team members on work practices and situational problem-solving.
  • Conduct maturity assessments and benchmark internal best practices to strengthen operational standards.

B. Operational and Process Control

  • Ensure shift team members comply with process standards, work instructions, maintenance schedules, and quality guidelines.
  • Oversee shift performance across Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Safety Management (QCDSM).
  • Complete all necessary administrative tasks supporting production operations.
  • Review and sign off on shift performance reports and ensure production targets are met.

C. Equipment and Plant Maintenance

  • Ensure team members carry out required autonomous maintenance activities.
  • Support the process artisan in executing repairs and developing team capability in basic maintenance tasks.
  • Confirm that production lines are prepared for maintenance tasks and that operations resume on schedule.
  • Allocate maintenance tasks to the team and initiate emergency work orders when necessary.
  • Participate in maintenance days and post-maintenance analysis.

D. Quality Control and Analysis

  • Ensure strict adherence to product quality standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Verify daily quality checks and corrective actions where needed.
  • Conduct quality trend analysis to detect performance deviations and implement corrective measures.
  • Ensure problem-solving processes address root causes of quality issues.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of quality data.

E. Problem Solving

  • Use structured problem-solving tools such as 5 Why, OPLs, and quick-fix techniques.
  • Support escalation procedures when problems require higher-level technical intervention.
  • Validate the implementation and success of corrective actions through follow-up checks.
  • Update work instructions based on lessons learned.

F. Continuous Improvement

  • Implement Short Interval Control (SIC) to track waste and productivity.
  • Integrate waste reduction objectives into team performance goals.
  • Monitor progress against improvement actions and display results in team meeting rooms.
  • Evaluate improvement opportunities and collaborate with specialists where necessary.

G. People Management and Development

  • Provide hands-on coaching on operational and technical tasks.
  • Monitor individual and team performance, ensuring proper execution of processes.
  • Conduct one-on-one sessions and performance reviews to identify and address training needs.
  • Drive a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
  • Ensure the team complies with all safety protocols and operational guidelines.

3. Job Requirements

Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Qualified artisan certification is an added advantage.
  • At least 3 years of technical and leadership experience within a high-pressure FMCG manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of production processes, maintenance systems, and quality standards.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop, and guide a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to operational excellence.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and drive results.
  • Demonstrated integrity and adherence to safety and quality regulations.
