Job Description
Barrick – North Mara Gold Mine LTD is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Auto Electrician to join its technical maintenance team at the North Mara Mine located in the Tarime district. This position plays a critical role in maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing electrical systems for heavy mining equipment while ensuring a safe and compliant working environment.
The successful candidate will work underground and collaborate with the Maintenance and Operations teams to ensure machinery reliability, improve equipment availability, and uphold Barrick’s strong safety and maintenance standards. Duties and Responsibilities
- Work in an underground environment as required by operational needs.
- Train and support national employees to reach Trade Level 4 certification.
- Inspect mobile mining equipment to determine electrical faults and malfunctions.
- Adjust, repair, or replace defective electrical components according to OEM specifications and maintenance procedures.
- Conduct tests to ensure equipment is functioning properly after repairs.
- Prepare accurate daily maintenance reports, technical evaluations, parts lists, and failure analyses.
- Provide timely feedback to the Maintenance Foreman to support equipment improvement initiatives.
- Support accurate documentation needed for warranty claims and engineering upgrades.
- Work efficiently to reduce equipment downtime and increase operational productivity.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Barrick and OEM standards, regulatory guidelines, and safety requirements.
- Conduct equipment inspections prior to use and document any required electrical bypass procedures.
- Ensure all disabled equipment with electrical bypasses is repaired back to OEM standards before returning to service.
- Maintain all tools and equipment in a safe, serviceable condition.
- Take responsibility for continuous self-development and skill enhancement.
- Participate actively in continuous improvement initiatives and safety programs.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Auto Electrical and Automation Foreman.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Degree in Auto Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical field.
Experience and Competencies
- Experience working in an underground mining environment.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with remote-control systems.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an expatriate Auto Electrician (or equivalent professional exposure).
- Strong understanding of heavy mining equipment electrical systems.
- Ability to work safely in a high-risk operational environment.
- Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and reporting skills.
