Alistair Group, one of East and Southern Africa’s fastest-growing logistics and integrated service providers, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Lead to oversee its Tanzanian operations. This senior leadership position carries full responsibility for all fleet, border, and ground operations across both company-owned and subcontracted logistics assets.

With over 1,000 employees, a large in-house fleet, and a diverse portfolio of services—including freight forwarding, clearance and forwarding, warehousing, commodity trading, equipment rental, and integrated logistics solutions—the company is looking for a dynamic leader capable of maintaining and enhancing operational excellence.

The Operations Lead – Tanzania will play a key role in ensuring service consistency, operational integrity, and compliance with both company and regulatory standards. The role demands a seasoned operations professional with strong leadership qualities, analytical abilities, and the capability to make strategic decisions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. This role involves guiding teams, enhancing operational efficiency, enforcing safety standards, optimizing fleet performance, and engaging with key stakeholders ranging from senior executives and commercial partners to regulatory authorities and subcontractors.

5. Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform a broad range of operational, managerial, and strategic duties, including but not limited to:

Operational Leadership & Oversight

• Provide end-to-end leadership for all Tanzanian logistics and fleet operations, ensuring safe, timely, and cost-effective service delivery.
• Oversee daily operations of both in-house and subcontracted fleets, ensuring maximum fleet availability, productivity, and compliance.
• Take full accountability for operational performance, incident response, and escalation of high-priority issues to senior leadership.

Team Management & People Development

• Recruit, train, mentor, and manage the Tanzanian operations team to maintain a culture of high performance, safety, collaboration, and accountability.
• Conduct performance reviews and implement development plans to strengthen operational competencies.
• Build strong relationships with cross-functional departments to ensure seamless coordination and communication.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

• Engage effectively with internal departments, including commercial teams, senior management, finance, safety, and compliance.
• Communicate confidently with external stakeholders such as clients, subcontractors, government bodies, and local authorities.
• Represent Alistair Group in high-level engagements, contributing to strategic decisions and operational planning.

Operational Efficiency & Process Improvement

• Review performance data and operational reports to identify challenges, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Implement workflow improvements, fleet optimization strategies, and process enhancements to improve speed, accuracy, and profitability.
• Lead or support digital transformation initiatives related to tracking, reporting, fleet management, and operational visibility.

Compliance, Safety, and Governance

• Ensure adherence to all legal, regulatory, and company-specific policies governing transport and logistics operations.
• Maintain high standards of governance, reporting, documentation, and safety practices.

Risk Management & Operational Integrity

• Conduct regular risk assessments and implement mitigation plans to support safe and efficient operations.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety and operational integrity, ensuring that all frontline teams comply with required standards.

• Proven senior-level experience in logistics, transport, fleet management, or cross-border operations.
