Job Description
TUI Hotels & Resorts is looking for a dedicated and professional Health & Safety Officer to support the implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of Health, Safety, and Hygiene systems at The Mora Zanzibar. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Cluster Health & Safety Manager, helping the hotel maintain the highest safety standards for guests, employees, and partners.
This role is crucial in ensuring full compliance with HACCP standards, international safety regulations, and internal company requirements. The officer will lead safety audits, deliver training sessions, support sustainability programs, and drive proactive risk prevention across the hotel environment.
The ideal candidate must possess strong technical knowledge in health and safety, excellent communication and training skills, and proven experience in the hospitality industry. Due to work permit policies, only candidates with the legal right to live and work in Zanzibar are eligible.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the hotel’s HACCP plan, ensuring alignment with local and international food safety standards.
- Conduct regular safety and hygiene audits, identify risks, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Oversee the hotel’s emergency response procedures, including fire safety, medical situations, and other critical incidents.
- Plan, organize, and deliver health, safety, and hygiene training for hotel staff, ensuring awareness and compliance.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses; document findings and recommend preventive measures.
- Maintain the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) management system in compliance with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.
- Keep accurate and updated safety documentation, including manuals, policies, logs, and HACCP-related records.
- Support the implementation of sustainability initiatives and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities within the hotel.
- Promote teamwork, safety awareness, and effective communication across departments.
- Participate in hotel risk assessments and ensure follow-up on improvement plans.
Job Requirements
Education & Certifications
- Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, NEBOSH, HACCP, Food Safety, or a related qualification.
Experience & Skills
- Prior experience in the hospitality industry is mandatory.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in HACCP implementation and food safety standards.
- Excellent command of English and Swahili, both written and spoken.
- Strong presentation, auditing, planning, and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and other IT systems (tech-savvy).
- Ability to design, prepare, and deliver effective training modules.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
