Job Description

Barrick – North Mara Gold Mine LTD is seeking a highly experienced Senior Planner (Long Term Planning) to join the Barrick Africa Middle East team. This critical role supports the long-term strategic direction of the mine by designing, optimizing, and coordinating life-of-mine (LOM) planning initiatives. The ideal candidate will ensure that all long-term plans align with operational objectives, cost efficiency targets, and safety regulations while supporting Barrick’s core values: integrity, accountability, partnership, sustainability, and zero harm.

The Senior Planner will work closely with multidisciplinary teams—including geologists, mining engineers, production teams, and corporate planning units—to develop long-range mining strategies. This position requires strong conceptual design capability, strategic thinking, and the ability to mentor junior team members while ensuring compliance with Tanzanian and international mining standards.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize Life-of-Mine (LOM) designs, including stope layouts and multi-year schedules.
  • Create and update long-term production shapes, ensuring accurate and efficient resource and reserve utilization.
  • Conduct technical and economic evaluations, including cost modeling, risk assessments, and scenario analysis.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, productivity improvement, and asset optimization.
  • Integrate capital projects, mine infrastructure, and long-term operational requirements into strategic plans.
  • Work closely with geologists, engineers, and operations teams to ensure all plans support corporate strategic objectives.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior planners, technicians, and planning engineers.
  • Ensure that all planning activities comply with environmental, safety, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Maintain and update long-term planning databases, models, and planning software outputs.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and corporate-level decision-making.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the planning and operational departments.
  • Ensure adherence to Barrick’s core values, safety commitments, and sustainable mining standards.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related minerals discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 8 years experience in mine planning, modeling, and underground mining operations.
  • Proven expertise in developing and maintaining 3–10-year long-term mine plans and LOM strategies.
  • Proficiency in mine planning software such as Minemax, GEOVIA, or similar industry-standard applications.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving license.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Mines Health & Safety Act.
  • Strong conceptual design, problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
