4. Job Description
Barrick – North Mara Gold Mine Ltd is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Superintendent – Planning & Reliability to join its Africa Middle East Team. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving maintenance planning, asset reliability, equipment performance, and continuous improvement across the mine’s operations.

The Superintendent will lead a multidisciplinary team, oversee reliability engineering activities, strengthen preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and ensure that reliability practices support safe, cost-effective, and high-performing operations.
Working in a dynamic mining environment, the position requires a professional with deep technical expertise in maintenance and reliability, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Contractors to optimize asset performance throughout the equipment lifecycle. This role offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to one of Tanzania’s largest and most productive gold mining operations.
5. Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance and reliability strategies, including Preventive Maintenance (PM), Predictive Maintenance (PdM), and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM).
- Lead and mentor teams of Maintenance Planners and Reliability Engineers, promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Oversee all maintenance planning activities, including preparing work schedules, managing budgets, and coordinating shutdown and outage planning.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and manage condition monitoring programs such as vibration analysis and oil analysis.
- Eliminate repetitive failures through structured problem-solving techniques.
- Track and report key equipment performance indicators, including Availability, MTBF, MTTR, PM Compliance, and Cost trends.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Capital Projects teams to ensure reliability requirements are embedded into project design and execution.
- Optimize the use of CMMS/EAM systems such as SAP, Pronto, or Oracle for planning and reporting purposes.
- Ensure all reliability initiatives align with safety standards, operational priorities, and sustainability commitments.
6. Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience & Competencies
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in maintenance or reliability engineering, preferably within the mining industry.
- Strong understanding of mobile mining equipment and/or mineral processing plant equipment.
- Experience using CMMS/EAM platforms (e.g., SAP, Pronto, Oracle).
- Professional certifications preferred: CMRP, CRL, vibration analysis, oil analysis, Six Sigma.
- Advanced analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
- Strong proficiency in RCM, FMEA, RCA, and other reliability engineering tools.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced mining environment.
- Data-driven approach to maintenance improvement and decision-making.
