Job Description

EPICBR is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Technical Manager to lead and oversee all maintenance and technical operations within its manufacturing facility in Dar es Salaam. This role is essential for ensuring continuous equipment reliability, maximizing plant productivity, and maintaining strict engineering standards across all operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the performance and upkeep of heavy-duty machinery such as Reach Stackers, Yellow Metal equipment, conveyor systems, and bagging line technology.

The Technical Manager will design and implement strong preventive and predictive maintenance systems aimed at increasing machine uptime and reducing operational costs. This position requires an individual capable of diagnosing complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems while providing effective solutions under pressure. The role also involves supervising multidisciplinary technical teams, managing third-party service providers, overseeing spare parts inventory, and ensuring strict compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) requirements.

This role demands a strategic thinker with exceptional leadership abilities, excellent technical acumen, and the capacity to coordinate multiple engineering activities simultaneously. The Technical Manager will regularly generate detailed reports on equipment conditions, maintenance schedules, breakdown root causes, and operational improvements. Candidates must be able to thrive in fast-paced environments, especially during peak production cycles where efficient troubleshooting and decision-making are critical.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all plant machinery and equipment.
• Oversee heavy plant maintenance including Reach Stackers, Yellow Metal machines, conveyor systems, and bagging line technology.
• Conduct advanced troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic failures.
• Lead and manage diverse technical teams including electricians, welders, fitters, technicians, and plant operators.
• Manage and control technical stores, spare parts inventory, and related procurement activities.
• Ensure strict adherence to HSEQ standards for all engineering tasks and operational processes.
• Coordinate and monitor the performance of third-party service providers and contractors.
• Prepare and submit detailed technical reports covering equipment performance, maintenance costs, and asset condition.
• Recommend upgrades, system enhancements, and other engineering improvements.
• Ensure proper calibration, inspection, and certification of all critical plant equipment.
• Support production teams by ensuring equipment reliability during high-demand operations.
• Lead emergency maintenance and respond promptly to equipment breakdowns.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• At least seven years of proven experience in technical or maintenance management roles within manufacturing.
• Strong background in maintaining heavy plant machinery such as Reach Stackers and Yellow Metal.
• Technical knowledge of conveyor systems, bagging lines, hydraulic systems, and advanced diagnostics.
• Excellent problem-solving and time management skills, especially under pressure.
• Demonstrated ability to lead diverse technical teams effectively.
• Strong understanding of HSEQ compliance and implementation.
• Experience managing contractors and third-party service providers.
• Ability to produce accurate technical reports, maintenance data analysis, and cost evaluations.
