Job Description
DB Shapriya Construction & Engineering Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and committed HSE Officer to support and strengthen safety operations at the Nyanzaga Gold Mining Project. This role is central to ensuring strict adherence to OSHA Tanzania regulations and maintaining alignment with ISO 45001:2018 safety management standards. The successful candidate will be based within the project area and will oversee safety performance across sites located in Sotta, Igalula, and Sengerema districts.
The HSE Officer will be responsible for enforcing all health and safety policies, conducting continuous site monitoring, and working closely with supervisors and workers to cultivate a strong safety-first culture. This includes identifying hazards, evaluating risks, and ensuring that effective controls are implemented and maintained throughout the project. The officer will take a leading role in conducting daily inspections, organizing safety briefs, reviewing documentation, and ensuring all personnel meet the required medical and induction standards.
This position requires an individual who is observant, proactive, and equipped with hands-on experience in managing safety within construction and mining environments. The ideal candidate will be able to handle high-pressure situations, communicate effectively, and drive continuous improvement in the safety practices of the project team.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Conduct daily workplace inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA Tanzania standards.
• Enforce all project safety procedures and immediately address any non-conformities.
• Check validity of OSHA medical certificates, induction records, and training documentation.
• Facilitate and lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and training sessions.
• Supervise high-risk activities such as working at heights, confined spaces, lifting operations, excavations, and electrical tasks.
• Investigate all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, preparing detailed reports.
• Track and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and effective.
• Monitor and manage PPE distribution, condition, and usage among workers.
• Maintain updated risk assessments, method statements, and safety documentation.
• Collaborate with supervisors to ensure safe work procedures are properly followed.
• Promote a strong safety culture through engagement, awareness, and ongoing coaching.
• Provide recommendations for continuous improvement in safety systems.
Job Requirements
• Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management.
• OSHA Certificate of Competence Levels I & II from OSHA Tanzania.
• At least 3 years of experience as an HSE Officer in construction or mining.
• Strong understanding of Tanzanian safety laws and ISO 45001:2018 requirements.
• Fluent in both English and Swahili with strong reporting and communication skills.
• Experience in conducting toolbox talks and safety meetings.
• Proven ability to perform incident investigations and write comprehensive reports.
• Competence in supervising high-risk tasks and enforcing safety controls.
• Skilled in maintaining updated safety records and documentation.
• Must provide Certificates of Service from previous employers.
